Srinagar, Jan 11 (KNO): Baramulla police in a coordinated operation, cracked a grenade attack case on Saturday, arresting three persons, including a surrendered terrorist, even as the joint forces recovered weapons along with ammunition. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police for operations, Feroz Yehya, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the attack occurred on January 7, 2025, at around 7:40 pm when a grenade was hurled at the 163 Territorial Army (TA) camp in Hamray Pattan. The grenade hit the MI structure of the camp, causing significant damage. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, he said. SP said the investigation was initiated immediately upon receiving information from the in-charge of Police Post Palhallan. Technical and electronic evidence was gathered on-site, leading to a breakthrough in the case, adding that a case under FIR No. 01/2025 was registered following which a comprehensive investigation by joint forces was carried out under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). "During the operation, three persons were arrested. Their disclosures led to the recovery of a hand grenade, one AK-series rifle, one pistol, 256 AK rounds, and 21 pistol rounds," SP operations said. He revealed that one of the arrested individuals is a surrendered terrorist, another is the son of another surrendered terrorist, while the third, identified as the mastermind, had been evading arrest in a narco-terror case and was residing at a concealed location. The police are continuing the investigation and anticipate further arrests and recoveries, Feroz said, adding, “At this stage, we cannot share additional details as it may hamper the ongoing investigation.” SP said the incident acts will act as a blow to the Baramulla police’s ongoing efforts to build trust and foster reintegration among surrendered terrorists and their families. "Such incidents jeopardise trust-building measures and undermine efforts to create a lasting peace in the region," he said. In a strong appeal, SP operations urged surrendered terrorists and their families to refrain from indulging in anti-national or terror-related activities. He warned of stringent action against anyone found violating this trust. "Such actions not only lead to legal consequences but also damage the broader efforts to rebuild relationships and foster a harmonious environment," he added. "Baramulla police is committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region," SP Operations said. He expressed gratitude to the district police of Sopore, Bandipora and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) for their coordination and support in solving the case—(KNO)
